Leaving one home to build another, the migrant workers are often left, vagrant. The ache for home lives in all of us; so why let it die from their conscience? The migrant laborers work long hours, are paid low wages, work in an unhygienic, unsafe environment, and most importantly at the end of the day, they go back to horrendous living conditions with no basic facilities. The proposed housing is an architectural solution that focuses on improving the physical, social and psychological well-being of this vulnerable population.
To multiply the limited specified floor area, the latter space which includes the living, dining, and sleeping area comprising collapsible furniture can be rotated on its central axis to interchange floor spaces according to the need of the users. The former space encompasses a bathroom and the kitchenette is fixed. This proposed unit is flexible and can also be placed in the set-back area of the site during the construction phase. The unit is ideal for 4 and considering the nature of the accommodation, it can be expanded with the inflow of new workers and condensed as the construction project nears its completion stage and finally, the accommodation can be moved to a new site.
